Caribous. Parc de Kuruurjuaq.Robert Fréchette, KRG
For well-prepared visitors, Parc national Kuururjuaq is an unparalleled opportunity for adventure. The sheer size of the park, its remoteness, limited search and rescue resources, wild animals and unpredictable weather conditions must always be kept in mind to make your excursion a pleasant one.
You are responsible for your own safety. An expedition planning guide for the park is available online to help you with your preparations. It provides answers to many questions that you may have in advance of your adventure, either in the company of a guide or on your own.
Although the Koroc River valley offers ideal conditions for various activities, some require a certain level of technical skill, including Plateau and Mount D’Iberville ascents. Be sure to have with you the proper equipment and to be able to communicate your location in an emergency. As well, even in summer, visitors should be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions. In winter, cold temperatures, blizzards and short daylight hours might catch you unaware.
It is also important to be prepared for air-service delays and bad weather. Caution and patience are your best guides, and extra food should be planned.
Park staff use snowmobiles in winter to monitor the park. These vehicles may also be used for search and rescue operations.
Parc national Kuururjuaq endorses the Leave-No-Traceprinciples for outdoor activities that are applied in all Québec national parks. Planning your adventure includes planning to leave no trace of your passage.
