Follow the Inuit's Footsteps in the Torngats

Departure from Montreal and flight transfer at Kuujjuaq to Kangiqsualujjuaq (45–50 minute flight via a Twin Otter-type small aircraft). On your arrival at Kangiqsualujjuaq, you will be welcomed by a Kuururjuaq park staff member. Forms and equipment will be checked, and a rucksack will be provided. Next, you will be shuttled to your hotel accommodations for check-in​​ and a little free time. A traditional supper will be organized at the park pavilion with community residents. You will be introduced to elders and have an opportunity to learn more about Inuit culture, history and legends.

Leaving from your hotel in the morning, your day will include relaxation, pure northern air and getting acquainted with your travel companions. A community tour will be organized. Kangiqsualujjuaq is nestled on the George River, within 15 km of Ungava Bay. The community is very welcoming and will provide a noteworthy cultural experience. You will also travel by snowmobile to the expansive Ungava Bay and some local fishing camps. You may decide to observe your guides as they ice fish or practise traditional hunting. Other activities include learning to set up a tupik (traditional tent), participating in some short excursions, and watching the sun set over the ice-covered bay. In the evening, an information session will be organized with your guide team and to review expedition details. Supper will be served at the cooperative hotel.

Departure from the cooperative hotel around 8 a.m. One hour final preparations and information session with your group. By snowmobile, you will travel to the newly constructed park camp in the Qurlutuarjuq Falls sector, 100 km from Kangiqsualujjuaq. Frequent stops are planned along the route (about every 20 km) for tea, to observe key scenery and learn the Inuktitut names for the nearby mountains! Observe your guides as they keep a close eye on the land for wildlife. The quantity and species of animals encountered varies depending on the expedition. Visitors may decide to ski the last 15 or 20 km to the camp. The route is along the Koroc River and the terrain is flat. This first day of the expedition will allow you to validate your physical fitness for the north (cold temperatures, off-trail, no shelter from the wind, etc.).

Two days spent in the magnificent Qurlutuarjuq Falls sector. Activities will include exploration of the sector by ski or snowshoe. Be prepared for an arctic experience. From the Mount Haywood (732 m) sector, to the descent of the Naksarulak Creek or the nearby sacred Naskapi Caribou Heaven site, your guides will propose excursions to allow you to take full advantage of your back-country adventure. ​

• Meals: Continental-type breakfast at the Qurlutuarjuq camp (coffee, tea, cheese, cereal, toast, granola, fruit) / lunch onsite (soup, crackers, wraps or sandwiches, bannock) (expedition foodstuffs carried in your backpacks) / supper at the Qurlutuarjuq camp (sausages, cheese, chicken, steak, fish, rice and vegetables).
• Accommodations: Qurlutuarjuq camp (heated).

Departure by snowmobile for the Palmer River sector (1 hour) and the spectacular Napaartuit Isua site on the Koroc River. Set up of traditional Inuit tents. Up-river excursion to the Quvviliuliniujaaluk sector, marking the gateway to the majestic Torngat Mountains. Exploration by ski or snowshoe of the steeper slopes of the Palmer River.

• Meals : Breakfast at the Qurlutuarjuq camp (coffee, tea, cereal, porridge, scrambled eggs, fruit, toast) / lunch onsite (wraps, bannock, soup, sandwiches, crackers, cheese, sausages, salads, hot chocolate) (expedition foodstuffs carried in your backpacks) / supper prepared by your guides (lasagna, meat pies, pasta, prepared meat or fish) at the Napaartuit Isua site.
• Accommodations: Tent camping at the Napaartuit Isua site.​

Return trip along the Koroc River towards the Qamanialuk camp, in a cosy forested setting (60 km). Visitors may decide to ski the last 15 or 20 km along the river to the camp. For safety, guides will monitor (lead and tail snowmobiles) the excursion. The forested Qamanialuk camp is ready to receive winter-experience seekers; tents will already be set up. All camping equipment is provided. Downhill skiing may also be organized.

• Meals: Breakfast at the Napaartuit Isua site (coffee, tea, cereal, porridge, scrambled eggs, fruit, toast) / lunch onsite (wraps, bannock, soup, sandwiches, crackers, cheese, sausages, salads, hot chocolate) (expedition foodstuffs carried in your backpacks) / supper prepared by your guides (lasagna, meat pies, pasta, prepared meat or fish).
• Accommodations: Tent camping at the Qamanialuk camp.

Return trip by snowmobile to Kangiqsualujjuaq (3 hours) with frequent stops at scenic spots along the river. In Kangiqsualujjuaq, visitors may take advantage of some free time or participate in other snowmobile or ski excursions near the community. In the evening, accompany your guides to the local grocery store and, in the communal kitchen at the cooperative hotel, final group dinner.

• Accommodations: Cooperative hotel.

After breakfast, return flight to Kuujjuaq. Transfer at Kuujjuaq and return flight to Montreal.

• Meals: Continental-type breakfast at the cooperative hotel / lunch prepared by the Kuujjuaq Inn (cheese, crackers, wraps, salads, fruit).
