The wild trails of Kuururjuaq Park are suitable for intermediary and experienced hikers. During this trip, some sections of the ascension of Mount Kauviik will be leaded by our mountaineering guide with ropes, harnesses and anchors, scrambling to the top. You don't need to have mountaineering experience but you need to be confortable with heights.
What Do You Need to Know?
Meals are provided locally, based on traditional
cuisine as much as possible, therefore depending on seasonal catches and
other available provisions. The meals listed in the itinerary are those
normally provided during this expedition. In accordance with northern
realities, meals may be adjusted depending on availabilities.
Weather in Nunavik is changing constantly.
Expeditions may be adjusted to take into account current conditions.
Openness to new situations (such as plane delays or cancelations,
changes in the itinerary), flexibility and the ability to adapt to
modified activities and agenda are important prerequisites for travelers
in Nunavik Parks and an authentic part of your northern experience.
Day 1 | Discovering Kangiqsualujjuaq community
Departure from Montreal to Kuujjuaq (2h20) where Nunavik Parks staff will help you connect to your flight to Kangiqsualujjuaq (45–50 minutes flight via a Twin Otter-type small aircraft). Kuururjuaq staff will be waiting for you on your arrival at Kangiqsualujjuaq and will take you for a visit the grocery store and to shop with us for the next days. Then, forms and equipment will be checked. Next, you will be going for checkin to your hotel and have some free time in the village. A supper will be organized with community residents.
• Meal: Lunch box (smoked fish and cream cheese bagel, crackers, cookies and fruits) / Supper with community residents.
• Accommodations: Kangiqsualujjuaq Coop Hotel.
Day 3 | Panoramic flight to Head of Koroc river, trekk starting point
Departure from the cooperative hotel to gather all the expedition gear. At noon, you will take a twin otter plane for a 40 min panoramic flight over the Koroc valley and the Torngat Mountains to the head of the Koroc where the trekk can start. You will be able to set camp and start hinking the mountains nearby, enjoying the unique view of the Koroc River.

granola, fruit) / lunch on site (soup, crackers, wraps or sandwiches,
bannock) / supper at the base camp (sausages, cheese, chicken, steak,
fish, rice and vegetables).
• Accommodations: base camp.
Jour 4 : Randonnée vers le camp de base en suivant la vallée
Vous partirez avec votre matériel pour franchir les 12 kilomètres qui vous séparent du camp de base. Vous suivrez la vallée qui se rend jusqu'au pied du mont Kauvvik (mont D'Iberville) où vous pourrez vous installer pour les jours suivants. Vous aurez le temps de poursuivre votre exploration des lieux et d'apprécier le sentiment de liberté qui s'en dégage.

Days 4-5-6-7 | Mount D’Iberville Ascent and Trekking in the Torngats
You will start your trekk with a 15 km hike from the Koroc Valley to Kauviik (D'iberville) base camp, following small creeks and hiking among mountains that grow higher every mile while you approach the Kauviik sector. Depending on the weather, you will either explore the breathtaking views of the Torngat Mountains, its fjords, valleys, glaciers, falls, and lakes or start the ascension from Kauviik base camp to the the giant Mount Kauviik and its 1646 meters high. Note that some sections of the climb are more exposed and span terrain is very rocky with unstable blocks. As you will climb higher to the summit, the spectacular view will reveal to you the magic of the Torngats extending to the Labrador side. You will follow Mount Kauviik ridge, equiped with our mountaineering equipment (harness and helmet) roped two by two with your guide to make it to the summit. The day you will be attempting the summit is a big day that may take around 12 hours. During the rest of your stay in the Kauviik sector, you will be free to follow our guides or explore on your own to some of the most spectacular views of Nunavik. You will see many typical arctic geomorphological formations and some archeological sites witnessing the use of the land as an ancient path for Inuit to travel from Labrador to Nunavik. The experience is aerial, spectacular: you will reach an altitude of 1,554 meters!

Days 6 and 7: Exploration of the Torngat Mountains (glaciers, valleys, fjords, lakes, and rivers)
The Mount Kauvvik area offers a wide choice of superb hikes between glaciers, valleys, fjords, glacial lakes, and rivers. If you wish, and if the level of your group allows it, you can also go as far as the Nachvak fjord. The 24-kilometre round-trip hike from base camp offers unforgettable, spectacular views.
• Accommodations: Iberville base camp
Day 8 | Panoramic return trip along the Koroc River to the community
Return trip through the valleys with your new perspective of the mountains. You will meet the plane at the head of Koroc camp for a last panoramic flight through parc national Kuururjuaq. You will stop breifly at Kangiqsualujjuaq, then take off to Kuujjuaq where a Nunavik Parks staff member will take you to your hotel for a good cozy rest.
Day 9 | Return voyage home
After breakfast, Nunavik Parks staff will pick you up for some activities in Kuujjuaq: a quick town tour, a tour following the Koksoak River up North in the direction of Ungava Bay to try to spot muskox or some throat singing and story telling activity. It will then be time to board your flight back South to Montreal with your heart full of precious memories.

Price per person, before taxes. All-included (meals, accommodations, transportation, climbing and camping equipment - please confirm prior departure with our staff your size is available). Preferential prices for JBNQA beneficiaries. Two (2) participants needed to guarantee departure, contact us to join a group. Although hunting and trapping are strictly prohibited into Québec national parks, Inuit have the right to practise their subsistence activities throughout Nunavik, including the parc national Kuururjuaq. Thus, witness a group of Inuit hunting caribou, ringed seal or trapping foxes may be part of the Nunavik Parks experience.
